Alternative Evolution
As the first ever Daily Dose, I thought I’d start with a funny picture, as I’ll often be doing. I say ‘funny’, but of course most images featuring alcohol abuse are comically tragic, if they’re comical at all. However… Continue Reading…

I’m very happy you are here.
If, like me, you are worried about alcohol for whatever reason that may be, you are in the right place.
Maybe you:
- know you drink too much
- think you might be drinking too much
- don’t want to drink so much
- want to give up the booze completely
- know someone who drinks too much
- want to know more about the dangers of alcohol
- would like to help someone who drinks too much
- would like to meet others in the same situation
- don’t want to die out like a Dodo!
Whatever the case, as I said, you are in the right place.
You can discover what I’m about elsewhere on this site, but suffice it to say that I have been in the grasp of alcohol for 35 years.
Today – and this is not a joke – today, the 22nd August, 2015, as I write these lines, I am 50 years old. And enough is enough.
Why am I still in the claws of this terrible poison masquerading as an innocent social pleasure? Because, as I write this, I still haven’t given up. I’m going to do that in a few hours. And I would like you to be there to witness it and share the moment with me.
Admitting there’s a problem, even if it’s long after everyone else knows about it, is one of the most difficult things to do, but it’s an important one. No guilt, no blame, no scolds and no shame – just owning up to yourself that things are not great and had better get better before they get much worse.
Everyone has screwed up at some point in their lives, in one way or another and, for some of us, it’s alcohol that’s been our diabolic friend.
Alcohol, or ethanol, if you like a bit of linguistic variety (it’s the same thing) is a complex subject with profound consequences. On this site I will be offering up for contemplation and discussion some of the aspects of this omnipresent aspect of our society in some depth.
Indeed. the very fact that such a deadly poison is not only legal but available in every supermarket and corner store doesn’t help matters in the slightest. There are reasons for that, and I’ll be looking at that too, in the company of intelligent victims and sympathisers alike. I’ll be doing my best to help as many people as possible to feel less alone and escape this modern day plague.
This web site, along with its associated Facebook Page (for information) and Facebook Group (for communication) is my 50th birthday present to myself. Happy birthday to me. Happy birthday to me. Happy birthday dear 50-year-old me. Happy birthday to me.
Am I alone? Yes, I’m alone right now. But not exactly. I kind of engineered it that way. I didn’t want false love and sympathy and preferred to celebrate this momentous occasion in a different way. If I have had friends and lost them it’s been entirely my fault. We hurt the ones we love, us alcoholics.
Do I have friends? Not really. And that’s something I’d like to change too. It’s not healthy. There are people who have liked me or maybe even who like me still – more about that later – but right now I reject friendships and destroy potential allegiances. I’m spiralling down in a whirlpool of indifference and self-destructive indulgence. And, yep, you guessed it… that’s booze I’m swirling around in.
But today is different. Today (or more likely tomorrow, but not any tomorrow – the 23rd August 2015) is the day I stop.
And with the Drunken Dodo web site I hope to show others in a similar situation that they are not alone and that there is a way out.
If you, or anyone you know would like to be part of that, then come on down.
I thought I’d cheer up these pages a bit with one of my passions: street photography. Can you guess the city? I’ll give you a clue: it’s quite a famous one, and has a big river running right through it. And green trains. And pigeons and seagulls as you can see in the picture here – I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know!
Hopefully you’ll enjoy them and do feel free to comment on them as well as anything else you like over in the Drunken Dodo Facebook Page. Hey, you can even share your own passions and accomplishments, and I certainly hope you will. We need to concentrate on positivity and our successes and achievements, however large or small. I’ll be there to cheer you on every watery swig of the way!
To join the Facebook Page and chat about what’s going on and how it’s going with no fear of judgement or reproach click HERE.
Other than that, I don’t have much more to say. I have to go and get my last fix… ever. And yes, I would really love you to join me in getting rid of this terrible, unmentionable problem.
Let’s sort this out, together, OK? 😀
