Tweets come and go. Fast. But every now and then one catches your eye that was worth the time of day, like this one.

It strikes me as a damn cool idea, although I haven’t had the occasion to put it into practice yet.

One of the first things we forget, as we’re about to go on another bender, is, conveniently, not only all the crap that’s potentially just around the corner but, more powerfully, all the great things we already have which we will have wrecked just a little bit more by the end of the binge.

A ‘gratitude list’ is a list of things you’re glad you have in your life but which you may tend to take for granted. Like playing with your kids whenever you want or having a loving partner which doesn’t come in a bottle or having a high standing in your community.

You could also create a kind of anti-list of things you’re glad you don’t have thanks to not drinking. Things like not having a thumping head the morning after, or not having to ask for permission to play with your own children or not having to be hooked up to a dialysis machine for hours on end.

Whichever way you look at it, it was a powerful little tweet for me and I hope you get something out of it as I did. Hey – I’m glad I have you guys, and I’m not willing to cross you off the list just yet 🙂
