How to stop drinking? Well, you just… stop, right? Err, no, wrong, it’s not quite as easy as that, I’m afraid.
But it’s not nearly as hard as you think either.
I set up the Drunken Dodo website to celebrate the day I gave up alcohol for good. For much good! On my 50th birthday, no less.
And contrary to all expectations, I’m not quite extinct just yet, unlike our poor old dodo… 🙁
So happy was I to have finally got this thing under control, that I felt a strong desire to help others in the same situation as me. It seems there are a lot of us out there.
Let me just get this out of the way first…
Disclaimer: I am not a doctor and I have no medical training. Indeed, I have no official qualifications whatsoever to talk about the subject of how to stop drinking and alcohol abuse. The one thing I do have, though, is 35 years of experience ‘in the field’, if you see what I mean. And that is all I offer you here. With compassion and understanding thrown in for good measure. It ain’t easy, but I got out, and so can you. I’m not guaranteeing it will work in your case – how could I? – but if it helps in any way, then great! You deserve it.
Sensible Advice: Treat the Drunken Dodo web site like a self-help book you’d pick up at the book store. Read it, follow it and benefit from it. You’re very welcome. BUT if you have a serious drinking problem of any sort you absolutely MUST seek professional, personalised help before cutting down, stopping or embarking on a programme like 7 Days To Sober. OK? Right, let’s do this thing!

So all that remains for me to say is, well… why the devil are you still here reading this?!
Listen, please don’t be like this guy on the left here, or a female version of him, out of shape, and out of sorts and out of goodness knows what else too.
Much better to be like the lady on the right below, or a male version of her, don’t you think? And not a bottle of booze to be seen anywhere.
I really hope you decide to take the steps I’ve shown you here in order to get your life back on track.
Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today, they say.
Unfortunately, alcohol is an extremely sly, subtle enemy indeed and a fiendishly patient one.
After all, it’s got all the time in the world to achieve its aims if you do nothing to stop it. A lifetime, in fact. Yours.
And tomorrow never comes, they say. The only time you can take any action at all is right now. Anything else is either regretting or fantasising.
They also say that heavy drinkers die, on average, 20 years too soon, that women are particularly vulnerable, that drinking may well kill you before cigarettes do, and that, not least of all, drinking can lower your defences to other highly risky behaviours such as smoking, overeating and unwise sexual practices.
Those cheerful facts were gleaned from random articles I found on line, like this one and this one. There are 1000s, of course. They say a lot of stuff, don’t they?
Not to mention the untold grief and heartache caused to everyone affected by the addiction as long as it lasts.
The alternative is simple: take action and discover how to stop drinking quickly and easily today. Eliminate this evil from your life and don’t miss out on all those extra years of love, success and fun just up ahead, waiting for you to get back on track.
Make no mistake: Booze doesn’t help you through the bad times; it is the bad times, and it always has been.
